Default Palin doing Tina Fey doing Palin > tort reform

I only heard a few clips from the Tea Party keynote speech last night here in Nashville, but there was one line that stuck out.

It sounded like Palin impersonating Tina Fey impersonating Palin. After mentioning how Obama had promised hope and change on the campaign trail, she said, in her Minnesotan-sounding Alaskan drawl:

"How's that hope-y change-y thing workin' out for ya?"

Sorry, I don't see presidential material.

I suspect the 2012 Republican presidential nomination race is going to be interesting and very entertaining if she runs. We already know who the Dem candidate is so all eyes will be on potential GOP nominees.

I never was a big Hillary Clinton fan but she's pretty quick on her feet and she's a very sharp debater who can hang in there with most anyone. I actually thought her mind was faster than Obama's in those debates, or he was much more careful before speaking, but she gets right to it. I hope Palin is much better prepared this time. It's a different thing debating one guy in a VP race as opposed to her being the only female on stage alongside 5-6 very seasoned male politicians in her own party, some of whom will probably resent what they view as her undeserved political fame and fortune.

    Popcorn ready.

P.S. I would have ordered Palin v. Clinton pay per view.

This is great. I hope you use a real pan (not microwave.) Also - a friendly tip - spray olive oil on it when it is done.

    Now to more minor issues:
I sure hope Palin DOES NOT RUN. The last time we had a VP candidate who loss running for President, it was John Edwards. Well this is different. But the point is that just because she was lucky enough to be picked for VP in running last time, does not make her qualified to be Pres.

We need someone with a strong MANAGEMENT BACKGROUND. Someone that has run large companies successfully and has decent values. I hope those things can come together.

Obama started in over his head. I suspect he thought he would never really win when he started and he would run again later. But he did win. But his term is not over. And even though he started in over his head, it is possible that with the mid-term elections going more Republican, that Obama may move to the center, have more experience on the job and may become an excellent President. There is always that possibility. And if he even gets close to halfway decent, there is no way Palin will win. Nobody likes a quitter. And Palin quit. If she wanted to be Pres, she should have done more to show she can run a State. No way around that.

If the economy still sucks in 2011, expect strong support for a Romney candidate or some other successful govenor.

You can bet that those contenders will all be going for the throat, too. It's not a situation amenable to any sort of control.

The primary process is weird, though. She might just come out on top.

What would really make things interesting would be if Palin ran as a third party candidate (she might choose to do that, because she'd skip the humiliating primary battle).

I listened to the Palin speech. Her suggestions for health care, namely tort reform and the ability to buy insurance across state lines are most definitely not the answer to the problem. Tort reform would barely make a dent, and buying insurance across state lines would be a disaster. Basically, she's got nothing.

Well... I'm a cynic. My occasional bursts of optimism for the process are just that.

You can put the best manager in the world in that chair and there will be literally millions of people slamming his actions daily with half-truths and pure fiction, and hundreds of pols and others right there on Capitol Hill telling the world almost daily how they're screwing up. So much so that you can't really focus on the real screw ups and the real opportunities for some successes. It's war.

And people spending their waking hours planning ways to try and block any successes that might cost them political power in the future. From both parties. If the TEA party weren't full of so many nuts I'd probably join them.

It happened to Clinton, Bush II and now Obama. Some of the criticism is well deserved (for all 3) and some of it is pure politics. It will happen to the next guy also.

    It is what it is...

What would "barely make a dent" is the sum of the arguably beneficial contents of the Obamacare legislation. Just because one idea isn't necessarily a "game changer" doesn't mean that it isn't worth doing--maybe "tort reform" is a bad idea, but simply making the claim that it will only do a small amount of good isn't a valid argument against it. (I personally don't have a strong opinion on this one.)

Now, this post here on the Q is the first claim that I have seen which predicts a "disaster" should people be allowed to buy insurance across state lines. This is quite a bold claim, and I would like to see the reasoning behind it. I know that a lot of democrats are against the idea, but none of the reasoning that I have previously heard involves a "disaster". Please explain.

The new senator from Mass. is far and away a better future for the Republican Party than that Tina Fey imitator from Alaska.

Palin might play well on the far right but you got to get the moderates from both parties and the independents to be a winner. She's not going to get there.
